Southend Pier is a world-famous landmark in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, UK. Extending 1.34 miles (2.16 km), it is the longest pleasure pier in the world.
In 2012 Prokol Protective Coatings was specified to encapsulate The Cultural & Leisure Centre situated at the end of the pier. Despite everything mother nature has chosen to throw at it, the building continues to be fully watertight. The same quality solution was then requested to coated the roof of the RNLI launch building
2020 our product range was called upon again for two more major applications.
The first was an urgent need to protect the entire pier entrance and railway station deck. This was a direct application over the existing asphalt, primed using our Rocathaan Primer UNI RW, then sprayed with our Pure Polyurea Hotspray 136T to ensure a seamless waterproof membrane, and finally, finished off with our Profast 75-AS Anti-Slip Topcoat.
The second was to protect the unique observation tower at the entrance to the pier – The ask was to ensure all the steel fabricated walkways were protected against degrading salt water ingress. Prokol Ferroteq 960 was selected for this application based on its BS and EN Certification.
